This month we don’t just have one Volunteer to show kudos upon, we have two! Ed & Vivian Foster are our newest Thrift Store volunteers. They actually came to us thanks to Vivian who was a member. Once they retired following twenty-five years of retail experience, Vivian told Ed that they should help us out at the Thrift Store. That was all it took. They first started out by bringing in store shelves and then by arranging the stock. Now they work 1-2 days a week moving the items from our center to your house. Ed was originally from Fort Huron, Michigan, and came west to Long Beach thanks to the navy. It was fate that the two met at the Central City Mall (the Carousel mall to you youngsters) where they both worked, each taking turns as the other’s supervisor at various stores. They worked so well together they ended up with six kids, fifteen grandkids, and eight great-grandkids! Thanks to Ed & Vivian for arranging our store and for arranging your time to help us out.

With the end of the school year (except for those attending summer school), it came time to have one last hurrah before we put ours pencils and paper away. After all our instructors do for our students, we here at the center, and alot of their students, thought we should show them just how much we appreciated all that they taught this past school year. Therefore we were happy to host a Teacher\'s Appreciation party where students could show up and let their teachers know how much they care.

We even had some dignitaries including a San Bernardino City Councilman Fred Shorett, Karen Batista, the Principal for San Bernardino Adult Ed, and S.B. School Board Members Margaret Hill and Mike Gallow. After Councilman Shorett led the class in the Pledge of Allegiance, came a quick aerobics warmup led by one of our aerobics instructors, Julia Regan.

Then it came time to recognize all of our teachers, Rosetta Love, Bob Harvey, CiCi Tenney, Steve Micklas, Julia Regan, Avon Hall, Pia Escalante, Ricardo Tomboc, Tracy Johnson, Lisa Ballard, Fred Hawkins, Kim Scarcella, Rita Sicilliano, Emmett Resendez, Carla Lechuga, and Sue Herbert.

No apples were given to the teachers. Instead they were given a box of See\'s Chocolates and an HSC backpack. Of course refreshments were also given to all in attendance. We would like to give our thanks to our hard working educators, as well Jeffrey Court who sponsored the event.
